Introducing search

Perhaps one of the most frequently requested features has now arrived: search is now available on Paragraph! Search now helps you find any writer or post on Paragraph.

This comes at an especially important time: right after we migrated over nearly 1 million posts from over 200,000 writers from Mirror. As an early pioneer in onchain publishing, Mirror was home to some of the best writing on the internet. Search is one of many ways we want those posts to continue being discovered.

What search does today:

• You can search for writers, publication names, post titles, or keywords in the post body.

• You can search for coins, including coin ticker, contract address, and writer.

• You can search across a single publication or across Paragraph as a whole.

Results are ranked by engagement and quality metrics, along with best practices for keyword matching (so you don’t always need an exact phrase).

It goes without saying that this is an early version of search, so please let us know what you think: what you find useful, what doesn't quite work, and broadly how we could improve search and discovery for you.

Revamped XMTP Integration

We've been huge fans of XMTP for a while now: we launched wallet-based delivery in 2023, allowing writers to send their posts to readers by email and by wallet. Both of these are great ways for writers to reach readers and build relationships they fully own.

With the new Base app (“TBA”) now offering DMs powered by XMTP, we've revamped our integration to bring more value to readers and writers: most notifications we send on Paragraph are now also delivered via XMTP, including new posts, writer coin reward notifications, and more. After readers get new post notifications, they can use the Paragraph miniapp to read those posts and support writers directly from their DMs.

These improvements help writers maximize distribution and reach more readers, while letting readers stay on top of new posts and important notifications.

A better home feed

We want the home feed to be a place where you find the latest from writers you care about, discover new great writing tailored to your interests, and to see what your friends are engaging with. We've recently made some big improvements to surface better posts on the home feed and introduce new discovery surfaces on the Explore tab.

What we changed:

• Improved ranking to surface higher quality posts using engagement and monetization signals. For example, we consider how readers interact with a post and how a community supports it.

• Expanded discovery pages, /home and /explore, to make it easier to find new writers and posts.

• More explicit use of coins in discovery: /explore/publications shows top writers based on interest in their writer coin, and similar for /explore/posts and post coins. We're experimenting with using how much a writer or post is attracting support volume as a discovery signal, so the best writers and posts bubble to the top based on interest.

Looking forward, we're planning to make the feed more tailored to you, based on your Farcaster followers and other social graphs. We also want to introduce more variety into the home feed, beyond just posts. Some examples we're excited to show in the home feed:

• Posts that your friends are reading, sharing, commenting on, and supporting.

• Writers that your followers are subscribing to and supporting through writer coins.

• Discussions around posts you've read and supported.

• Introducing different mediums, like audio and short-form video versions of posts.
